I was Social Networking the other day and I realized that I wasn’t. Social. Or Networking. What I was, was occupied.
I ejected myself from Facebook, disabling my account for the short term, to try and maximize my productivity, to focus on being engaged in a constructive, creative task.
I realized how much time – dead time – we spend simply ‘occupied’. What I had been able to do was move from occupation to activation by eliminating the source of dead time. Maybe for you it’s not obsessively checking social networks; maybe it’s TV or texting or reorganising your music collection.
I want to propose something; that we collectively take the month of March to replace our dead time with living, vibrant, productive time, and for one month only, ramp our collective creative juices up to 11 and help each other produce creative brilliance.
